Fire Prevention Week October 6-10, 2025

Throughout the week, students from Alturas, Cedarville, Bieber, Tulelake, Modoc Vineyard Academy, and the Mennonite School participated in hands‑on activities built around this year’s NFPA theme. Activity stations included evacuation planning, “tools not toys,” campfire safety, a fire safety trailer demonstration on lithium‑ion batteries in the home, and firefighter fitness challenges. Each station emphasized practical lessons while keeping children actively engaged.

Thanks to support from State Farm in Alturas, every student received NFPA supplies and educational materials to take home, extending the lessons beyond the classroom. The annual poster contest encouraged students to illustrate fire safety in creative ways, with prizes ranging from fire extinguishers and smoke alarms to fun items donated by CAL FIRE, the U.S. Forest Service, Modoc Fire Safe Council, and Modoc County Public Health.

By combining education, creativity, and community partnership, Fire Prevention Week reinforced the importance of prevention while celebrating the energy and commitment of Modoc’s youth.
