The Modoc Fire Safe Council is committed to building wildfire resilience through meaningful connections with residents, partners, and local organizations. Community engagement is at the heart of our mission whether through educational programs, collaborative workshops, or public events, we work to make fire safety accessible, practical, and inspiring.

By reaching people where they live, learn, and gather, we help translate prevention strategies into everyday action. These efforts strengthen trust, empower neighborhoods, and ensure that wildfire preparedness is not just a plan, but a shared responsibility across Modoc County.

California Pines Firewise

California Pines emerged as a leader in community wildfire preparedness in 2025, earning recognition as a Firewise USA® site and hosting multiple events that brought residents, agencies, and partners together. From educational workshops to hands-on clean‑ups, their efforts reflect a strong commitment to proactive fire prevention and community resilience.

Fire Prevention Week 2025

Fire Prevention Week 2025 was a county‑wide effort to engage children and families in wildfire and home safety. The Modoc Fire Safe Council, CAL FIRE, and the U.S. Forest Service visited every school in Modoc County, bringing interactive learning stations, educational materials, and a poster contest that inspired creativity and preparedness.

Modoc District Fair and Fandango Days 2025

The Modoc Fire Safe Council joined the Modoc Fire Prevention and Education Committee—comprised of CAL FIRE, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management at the Modoc District Fair and Fandango Days. Together, we engaged families with interactive activities for children and provided educational resources for adults to take home.

Defensible Space Workshop 2025

The Modoc Fire Safe Council combined its July 2025 general meeting with a Defensible Space Workshop to provide residents with practical guidance and resources for wildfire preparedness. Partner agencies and MFSC staff shared expertise on defensible space, evacuation planning, emergency notifications, landowner assistance, and Firewise communities reinforcing the importance of proactive action across Modoc County.
