Modoc Fire Safe Council is a local nonprofit helping vulnerable citizens and homeowners reduce wildfire risk in our community. We are looking for a dependable, hard-working individual to join our team as a Defensible Space Technician.

In this role, you will be responsible for weed eating, trimming, and light vegetation removal within 0–30 feet of homes, as well as clearing debris from gutters and rooftops. You will transport removed vegetation and green waste from job sites and operate and maintain weed eaters and hand tools safely. Additional duties may be assigned by your supervisor.

Applicants must be 18 or older with a valid California driver’s license and a clean driving record and must own a reliable vehicle capable of hauling vegetation and towing a trailer if needed. Punctuality and reliability are essential; our clients depend on us showing up on time. The right candidate must be able to work outdoors in heat, on slopes, and in dusty conditions, and be able to lift 50 lbs and operate power equipment safely. Experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or wildland fire is a plus, but we are willing to train the right person.

Pay is $23.00–$25.00 per hour depending on experience. Mileage is reimbursed at the IRS rate ($0.725/mile) for all work-related driving. This is a seasonal, part-time position of 40 hours per week, running from mid-June through October, serving seniors and disabled homeowners in Modoc County.
